Many equipment operators and maintenance technicians encounter
turbocharger oil leakage failures. There are multiple possible reasons, and we can distinguish the fault source according to the phenomenon.
1. Turbocharger shaft seal aging and damage
The internal oil seal of the turbo prevents lubricating oil from entering the air passage. After long-term operation, aging, carbon deposition or improper lubrication will cause seal failure.
Symptoms: Blue smoke from exhaust, continuous oil consumption, oil traces at turbine or compressor end.
2. Poor engine crankcase ventilation
Blocked breather pipe will lead to excessive internal pressure of the engine, pushing engine oil into the turbo return oil pipe, resulting in oil leakage.
Symptom: Oil leaks obviously after high-load operation of the machine.3. Blocked turbo oil return pipeline
The lubricating oil inside the turbo relies on the return pipe to flow back to the oil pan. Once the pipeline is blocked, oil cannot flow back normally and overflows.
4. Wrong lubrication maintenance
Long-term use of unqualified engine oil, overdue oil change will accelerate the wear of turbo bearings and seals.

If oil leakage is caused by damaged internal seals, you can replace the turbo repair kit or turbo cartridge to save cost. Serious structural damage requires a complete replacement turbocharger.
